The recipient of the GAMABA or National Living Treasure Award named Lang Dulay was a Filipino traditional weaver who loves to do her work in several created ways. She first started at the age of 12 and as time did its work, she dreamed of passing her skill, designs, and techniques for the preservation of the T’nalak fabric. However, in an indigenous society, there are significant 2 roles and according to the study created by Endaya (2015), these roles were both fulfilled by Lang Dulay. These are the following:
● Babaylan - Also known as priestess-healer, it refers to the traditional healing and dealing with indigenous “spirits” which were derived from their culture on how they face the situation.
● Panday - refers to the crafts community leader wherein has to fulfil the role of enhancing and promoting the cultural heritage of the certain indigenous group.
Therefore, the GAMABA Award gave Lang Dulay several opportunities such as training others efficiently, conducting research or experiments and enhancing her dream wherein, the preservation of her beloved T’nalak (Casumbal-Salazar, 2015).
Thank you for this information, it give me more knowledge about Lang Dulay. 😍
